The Cheek family at their 'homeplace' on Alexander Avenue, formerly called Chase Street, c. 1938.

Clint provided the following information about the photo and Alexander Avenue.

"The street was actually named after my great great grandfather Alexander Smith. Alexander owned a home & store on the street, then called Blacknall st. Alexander Smith and Reuben Hibbard were the head 2 founders of West Durham Methodist Episcopal Church (now Asbury United Methodist).

Photo shows Cheek's, Smith's and others. Scene is either a birthday party for
Martha "Mattie" Jane Sykes Cheek (widow of Alexander Cheek, 1854-1932). Or it
could have been a Cheek Reunion."
