Norman Mason House

3313 Devon Road, ca. 2005, Noncontributing Building

Two-and-a-half-story side-gabled Neocolonial house with cementitous siding and 9/9 sash. The house replaced the Boyd House, a two-story Colonial Revival-style frame house built in 1933 for Dr. Boyd, a history professor at Duke who wrote The Story of Durham: A City of the New South, published in 1925.

This home was the first significant teardown in Hope Valley where a large out of character structure replaced the razed home on a premier lot.

See listing for W. K. Boyd House.
