By the mid-1920s, the southwest corner of Broad and West Club had become a Standard Oil Co. Service Station. By 1941, this had become Dodson's filling station, which became an Esso station by 1948, and Dodson and Faucette Exxon by the 1960s.

I'm not sure when the service station went out of business/was torn down, but it appears to have been out of business by 1985. By the early 1990s, a Napa auto parts store had been built here, which has since become United Imports Auto Parts.

Was there a structure on the site between the demolition of the service station and the current auto parts building? I have a vague memory of a larger car service building there for a couple of years that never really made it (and was also demolished).

heard that this was a superfund site and that they hauled ~20 foot depth of soil out of this site before building the current structure. does anyone know if this is true?

This was indeed a 'leak' site, and they did haul tons of soil away. I would have guessed 30 feet. I also heard conflicting tales about whether EPA or Exxon (or both) paid for the cleanup.

The gas station photo is later. Note the NRA eagle in the window. This was the mid 1930s

Robby - you are rights. Thanks also to David Southern, who pointed this out to me via email; just haven't had a chance to fix it, but it is fixed now.
