(From Andre Vann's Durham's Hayti book)

Born in Durham to Dr. Stanford L. Warren and Julia M. Warren, Selena Warren Wheeler was a Howard University and Hampton Institute graduate. Wheeler succeeded Mrs. Hattie B. Wooten in 1932 as director of the Durham Colored Library, which became the Stanford Warren Library. Under her leadership, the Bookmobile, hospital and school services, an increase in 11,000 catalogued volumes, and a new physical plant were established. The Selena Warren Wheeler collection of Black Books is named in her honor.
