1818 Cecil Street

This one-story, side-gabled, Minimal Traditional-style house is four bays wide and double-pile with a side-gabled wing on the left (south) elevation. It has a stucco foundation, flush eaves, vinyl siding and windows, and rectangular louvered vents in the gables. A replacement four- light-over-four-panel door near the centered [sic] of the façade is sheltered by a shallow, cantilevered hipped roof and has a group of three windows to its left. A prefabricated shed stands west of the house. County tax records date the house to 1949 and the earliest known occupant is Joseph Alaska Pratt, a laborer at Erwin Textile Mills,  and his wife, Pantha Estella Pratt, in 1950.

On June 28, 1949, C.C. Edwards and his wife, Annie Edwards sold the lot to Joseph Alaska Pratt and his wife, Patha Estella Pratt, and Margaret Elizabeth Pratt.  The Pratts built their home on the lot during the same year.

On March 23, 1959, Joseph and Pantha Pratt, and Margaret Pratt (single), entered into an agreement with Lula Gomez to convey their property to Ms. Gomez for up to three years, while living in in the house rent free.  They were to repay Ms. Gomez for the principal and interest she paid during this time and then retake possession of the property.  This arrangement was made due to the illness of Mrs. Pratt and the financial strain.

On February 15, 1961, Lula Gomez (widow), Joseph Alaska Pratt (widower) and Margaret Elizabeth Pratt (single) sold the property to Addie Bynum and her husband, Clarence O. Bynum.  The Bynums lived in the house for many years.  They sold the house to Frances Dyer and James A. Stewart.  Dyer and Stewart sold the house to John Hinton, Jr. on May 20, 2011. Mr. Hinton remains the owner of this property.
