Built between 1920 and 1923, the small grocery at the corner of Ottawa Ave. (then Forest Street) and Gurley Street was initially the WH Perry and Co. W Henry Perry lived at 502 Elizabeth Street in 1923.

By 1929, it was called the Forest Street Cash Grocery, and by 1934, the Riddle Cash Store. By 1943, it was called Riddle's Grocery.

It's, as of 2012, owned by Bill Graham, who has left it, along with its two western neighbors, in a state of static transition for the past several years - until he demolished it a month after I wrote everything before this phrase.

I was going to this store in the mid to late 70s.There was a blind man operating the store back then His name was Big Dave. The store was called Big Daves grocery,He had a helper to id anything larger than one dollar bills.

This store, Riddle's Grocery, was a three generation run store. They always hired the local kids to work Saturday and deliver groceries. David ("brother" as he was known) was shot and killed during a robbery and ended a wonderful history.
