603 Holloway certainly lost some of its neighborhood-y appeal in the above photo from 1964 after the demolition of 601 Holloway left it on the corner of a busy street. The loss of some additional detail around the porch (and the rather starkly fenced-off patch o' dirt in front) have diminished this house, but a good bit of detail remains.

In addition, look what someone did to the second-storey windows: took out the originals and put in smaller ones. And then it looks as though they covered up their misdeeds with vinyl siding. The first floor window is also new. Ugh!

True. I probably went easier on it simply because I'm worried that we're going to lose this whole block (between Elizabeth and the tracks). Vinyl is vinyl, but in the context of the demolition next door (605) I won't be too critical of things that can be reversed. Agreed on the replacement windows. Again the scourge of the unmatched fake 6 over 6.

Wow! My mother just sent me this link. This is the home she grew up in and I spent most of my best childhood years in. The garden in the front was full of sunflowers, roses, and grapes. The owners, my grandparents, were straight out of Ellis Island Greeks. I saw where it had been turned into some kind of mission. My grandmother would have been happy w/ that part.
