Part of the rapid development of this eastern edge of Trinity Park near South Ellerbe Creek in the years immediately after World War II, the first listed owner of this house in the 1949 city directory appears to have been a building contractor, Alvitt E. Loftis. Built within a few years of the development along Ruffin Street, this and the adjacent house at 713 West Knox seem to have been designed as rental duplexes.

Though 713 West Knox appears to have been converted into a single-family house in recent years, 711 remains divided into two units.
