This one-story, front-gabled bungalow is three-bays wide and triple pile with a shed-roofed addition across the rear. The full-width, engaged front porch is supported by tapered wood posts on painted brick piers; a replacement railing and screening has been added. The house has been covered with vinyl siding and has replacement one-over-one windows throughout. Knee braces in the front gable have been covered with vinyl, but an original six-light window remains exposed. A low concrete retaining wall extends along the street side of the property. It is identical in form to the Sidney A. Bobbitt House at 817 Exum. The earliest known occupants are J. Leonard Hackney (employee, Durham Ice Cream Company) and his wife Erna M. in 1930.
