Well, my brain totally wants this to be the stretch of 147 heading due North at the W. Chapel Hill St. exit. The road with the car on it would have to be Jackson, and W. ChHill would be the road at the top of the hill dead ahead, with the doomed houses on it.

The road heading away on the left would be Shepherd, and the car would just about be passing the intersection with Vickers, which you can just see hinted at in the commercial area on the right.

However, it might just seem that way because it's the stretch of 147 that I'm the most familiar with, so I'm trying to shoehorn this pic into it...

...and I guess there would have to be more houses (and a church) along the left side of road-which-therefore-must-not-be-Shepherd.

Too bad; a lot of other things match very nicely.

I beleive this is looking west where 147 now crosses S Alston. The houses are on Chatham, The cement buildings are on Gann and you can see the gas station lights for the gulf station behind the trees

The street is Glenn St looking west. You are right Robby, to the right is Gann St where the service station is located

Are there any maps or aerial photos of the Alston-147 intersection before 147? That theory may be correct, but I have nothing to check it against. The background road (with doomed houses) could be Chatham, if Chatham went that far -- or it could be Alston, and the foreground road could be Potter.

HELLO i think is area near duke that had house of promient bosses and old erwin autotorin where i saw my first movie and it had indoor pool.may be wrong but i remember them tearing them down and was sad. i do think it is near the old mill at main and ninth st

There was a Tops station on W. Chapel Hill (featured on this site some time ago) that greatly resembles the small concrete gas station building at right center. I can't really make any of the other pieces fit well, but can't rule that location out. Any other thoughts?

definitely not Chatham/Gann/Alston area...topo is very wrong as the free way is significantly lower and there are older homes on Gillette Street meaning the grade predated the freeway.
