Vickers Avenue

Named for William Gaston Vickers, who owned almost all of the land that would become Morehead Hill, much of the West End, and the easternmost part of Forest Hills. Vickers purchased 200 acres from Atlas Rigsbee, and profited handsomely from his earliest sales of subdivided lots to George Watts and Eugene Morehead.

Vickers Avenue is now continuous with South Gregson Street to the north, but the original path of Vickers Ave. still remains as "William Vickers Ave." to the north of the freeway. For purposes of historic continuity, this portion is still termed Vickers Avenue on this site.
