Another toughie today. I should note that occasionally I've run across photos like this that are very difficult that I eventually discover aren't actually of Durham, despite having insinuated themselves in various Durham photo collections. This scene is of laying water/sewer in the street - I'd guess around 1900-1915.

The fence in the background (especially the capitals on the posts) looks similar to the one in the "ice storm" photo a couple weeks ago.

Your comment about occasionally finding a non-Durham photo mixed in with a group of Durham photos reminds me to repeat a comment I've made often over the years. Always make notes on the back of your photos as to place and date. Any old family photos should have these notes as well, while those old enough to remember are still around. I collect old photos on particular subjects, and it can be very frustrating to find a great photo with no reference as to where it was taken!
